The Candidate Process

A Candidate is a sister who is learning about our Sisterhood. They attend a weekly meeting at which an Initiated Sister will review sections of our handbook, and answer any questions that the candidates may have. This stage of membership begins with the Candidate Ceremony and ends with the Initiation Ceremony. The time between the two ceremonies is approximately one semester.

Requirements for Candidacy:

Rush Guests interested in becoming candidates will need to complete a few requirements prior to the Candidate Ceremony. These requirements are:

  1. Attend 3 Rush Events during Rush.
While not required, we recommend you attend a Chapter meeting as one of your events. Check out our Rush Calendar to see what we have in store for this semester's rush.
  2. Be enrolled in an approved technical major at the university.
  3. Pay the Candidate Fee of at least one week before the Candidate Ceremony. The Candidate Fee covers your Member Handbook and supplies for the ceremony.
  4. Participate in the Candidate Ceremony.

Candidate Requirements for Initiation into Alpha Sigma Kappa:

During the candidate process, each sister has a few requirements to complete prior to Initiation. As a group the Candidates also have a few requirements. These requirements are:

As an Individual Candidate:

  1. Attend weekly meetings of Alpha Sigma Kappa.
  2. Attend Candidate Education. The dates of the meetings are based on the schedules of the Candidate class.

Signatures are obtained from sisters by answering a sister's question about themselves. Past examples of Sig Items include pillows, picture frames, flowerpots, and wooden boxes.
  2. Create and present the Candidate Class Project
Each project should be designed for future use of the Chapter or to benefit the growth of Alpha Sigma Kappa. Past Projects have included decorations for a chapter house, a large chalkboard for messages, and a wooden chest to store Alpha Sigma Kappa memorabilia and supplies.
  3. Plan and host the Candidate Event
This event is event attended by both the candidates and active sisters to help strengthen the bonds of friendship and sisterhood. Previous Candidate Events have been movie nights and ice cream socials.
  4. Participate in Initiation
