The Founding of the First Chapter of Alpha Sigma Kappa
Alpha Sigma Kappa began at the University of Minnesota as a little sister
organization to Triangle
Fraternity called the Sisters of Triangle. On May 1, 1989 the members
of this little sister group decided they wanted a stronger, more unified
group and decided to form a local sorority for women in engineering, mathematics,
sciences and architecture.
On May 1, 1996, the sisters of Alpha Sigma Kappa ratified the National
Constitution. Later that year in early August, they held their first National
Convention at which they accepted the petition for colonization of an
interest group at the University of Oklahoma. The colony received their
charter a year later in September 1997, making them the second chapter
of Alpha Sigma Kappa.
Since then Alpha Sigma Kappa has continued to grow. Our sisterhood
has over 600 initiated members, seven active chapters and alumnae chapters.
